9 times out of 10 I can communicate with my potential client and find out where my price is compared to my competitors. They might not tell me exactly what the numbers are, but in most cases they will give me a rough idea of whether I'm high or low in terms of price. From that point I can get a feel for what the prospect is thinking and negotiate on my bid price.

You have to follow up with your client after you submit a bid. This is so important for your power washing business, and something that can't be overlooked. Don't let weeks go by without contacting the prospect. Just call them every couple days and ask for an update and let them know you want their business and are ready to do a professional job. They will be pleased that you are motivated to do the work and that in itself will help you win the bid.

You don't have to act desperate, but simply act sincere and communicate in a friendly way that will help your get to know you better as a person. Every time you call, you are establishing a better relationship with your prospect which helps earn trust.

Bid Appearance - Your bid needs to look professionally because people will judge your company by appearance. If the bid looks unprofessional, then they're going to think you do shoddy work. I've had commercial property owners actually tell me, I had one of the most professional looking bids they have ever seen. Appearance means everything to some of these property owners, and it makes sense because they're worried about someone damaging their multi-million dollar properties. A professional appearance helps them gain trust in you as a person and a business man. This is equally important with residential work, if you have a professional looking bid they will be more inclined to be repeat customers.

Estimate Accuracy - Make accurate measurements when you submit a bid for a power washing work. Most of the property owners have a good idea of the square footage of their property, so they're going to frown on a bid with skewed numbers. Take the time to measure everything carefully and neatly write the measurements down. The prospect shouldn't be confused when looking at your bid, but feel comfortable that you know what is required for the job.
