Styling Wax A trick often used on photo shoots to get hold and shine is to use waxes. Before the creation of Styling Wax, the drawback was they didn't wash out; it could take days, driving models crazy. Styling Wax is a water-soluble combination of wax and silicone that gives the kind of shiny finish usually achieved with oils, making it far less greasy than its predecessors. Sumowax Sumowax was arguably our most arduous birth of all and the brainchild of Laurent Philippon, Bb. Editorial Stylist and a Parisian with endless curiosity. It all started when he became enthralled with the part hairdressing played in ancient Japanese sumo wrestling rituals, where wax is melted in iron cauldrons, applied and then cooled to set glossy, black helmets of hair. The contemporary commercial equivalent from Japan proved a pale, greasy (and stinky) imitation, so we set about finding the right blend of waxes to do Laurent's bidding. Two years later we hit the mark and the wax was cast. As Bumbleananda once said, "Patience is more a matter of discipline than virtue. As such, the rewards are even sweeter." Sumotech Sumotech is a distant, contemporary off-spring of traditional Sumowax and, like many of our styling products, a hybrid. It's not a wax, not a paste and not a creme, but in some ways all of them. In any case, it quickly became an all-time favorite with both men and women: our Wall Street clients love its 'memory' - they can look buttoned-down and groomed by day, and then funk it ...
